How to treat a cat with stress
All people are familiar with stress and most of us are aware of the dangers of stress and the negative effects it can have. Unfortunately, very few realize that animals experience the same stress. The fact that they cannot tell you about it, doesn't mean that they don't have it. I'm sure you are aware of your friends stress levels, because she keeps on reminding you of it!
Unfortunately those little cat friends of ours cannot tell you how they are feeling.
So, how are you suppose to know if they are stressed out? They do manage to show you by their behaviour. As a loving pet owner you have the responsibility to monitor your cat and keep up to date with his or her health. It is better to try and prevent you cat from getting stressed out, than to deal with all the negative effects of stress.
Stress can be produced by a change in the environmental circumstances. This may include changes in the playtime of the cat, feeding schedules or even a new home. People visiting you can also cause cats to experience stress. The physical appearance of a cat can also lead to stress. Just think of yourself...how do you feel when you are sick or perhaps overweight? The list goes on, but it can be summarize as follows: cats experience emotions like fear, jealousy, boredom and many other. These emotions are usually responsible for either the good health or the stress in your cat.
How do you know if your cat is stressed out? You should be familiar with your cat's behaviour patterns by now. Watch out for any behaviour that is to the contrary. The cat may sleep or eat more. You may experience that your cat is not using the litter box anymore. The cat may be aggressive or eating inedible objects. The sad thing is that very few cat owners are able to identify the danger signals. If you do manage to identify these stress signals, there are various ways to approach the situation. The easiest way is to use pheromones to stimulate the cat's mood.
